With @red_spork's recent post of his "holy grail" coin, a Victoriatus, I went searching for one myself. I found a rough, cheap one and it arrived yesterday. In searching for specific identification, I was trying to find a similar one with the spear going from bottom left to top right behind the shield and only could find this one that appears similar: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=5529310 It, like mine, is small and lightweight. Mine is 14mm, 1.16g. It mentions it being unlisted/unpublished. Here is mine: Any insight or info anyone has to offer is greatly appreciated! Justin
Unfortunately it's not a victoriatus nor is it unpublished. It's a quinarius of Cn. Lentulus Clodianus. These quinarii of this period are surprisingly commonly mistaken by sellers as victoriati because of the similar types, and they basically are a continuation of the victoriatus, but they're well documented and quite common.
Certainly cool!!! I am a big fan of Justin Lee's investigative powers... he WILL get what he is looking for!
Yes that's the coin. The type does prove that by the first century BC, old victoriati were circulating as quinarii.
