For now, just an image dump and the usual unscientific poll. I'll add a writeup later to match my collection format.

I gave it a 7 , do to the wear and color although this is on my "bucket List" of coins to own someday . :)
Obsolete coins are special like the Two,Three and Twenty Cent .

I like it and would have put that one in my 7070.
I like the whole idea of a coin that's been in circulation.
The whole who what & where of it.

To be sure, this one has seen plenty of circulation, but I think it is wholesome for the grade, and I couldn’t have afforded a much higher grade example at the time. And as a Philly mint coin, it’s a smidgen less common than the 1875-S, at least.

For an F12 that is a very visually interesting piece. The black background really makes the circ-cam qualities pop.

    That is a beautiful circam.

I gave it a 7. It’s a nice, well circulated coin with no defects. As an old time grader, I’d be inclined to call it a choice VG, but times have changed. The fact that it is an 1875-P and not the usual 1875-S is a plus.

I gave it an 8. Honest wear, nice contrasts, no distracting marks or blemishes and a good date/mm.

From an aesthetics point of view, the eagle is one worst images to grace our coins, IMO. Gobrecht must have been in his cups when he created this image.

A nice tone worn coin and worthy of my 8 which by the way put the 8's above the 7's on poll.

Does anybody care to credibly explain the rationale used by the government at that time to mint a 20 cent coin, especially when 25 cent coins had already been in circulation for decades?

Nice coin, a bit worn, still has luster. I give it a 6+.

I like the coin, but what makes it more valuable than the 1875 S? A friend of mine gave me a certified 1875S and it was graded VF-20. I don't usually look at the value of a coin if I like it.
