Yet that's exactly what you too are doing here. However, and generally speaking, your point is perfectly reasonable, but in this case it simply doesn't cut it, nor does it in any way address the greater point of the FACT that the family does not wish to open it. You know well that if we knew, without question, there was $5k in the bag it would almost certainly make all the difference. Still, and again, the greater fact is that no one here has anything to gain by pressing this person to go against their family's wishes, and really is as simple as that. If they wished to throw it into a fire without having a clue as to what is inside, they've every right to do so without protests from internet unknowns.
