United States: 1900 silver Lafayette commemorative dollar

    Yeah, I find that surprising. It would depend if the damage extends into the rim. If it is not a normal bump from circulation but was done deliberately, that could have affected the decision. Also if it was already a borderline problem coin for cleaning the nick could have pushed it over the edge.

    I wish every details coin had a write up as to why.

    Yeah, that little dimple "detailed"it. even though the label says "rim damage" it took me a while to spot it! Sharp eyes at ANACS!

    I found an old thread on the CU forum about the bank vault photo I referenced, unfortunately the image is gone, but it showed 4 sacks of Lafayette dollars on the floor of the vault.
    Apparently the 14,000 coins left over after the Paris Exposition were held in a Federal Vault until 1945 when they were unceremoniously melted down. Ouch!
