    Hey ya'll,

Here is another piece I found at an estate sale. I originally bought it for the gold, however, the coin is one I've never seen before. Looks foreign, what the heck is it?

    Thanks ya'll

    Spanish reale of some sort.

It is a Spanish Colonial half Reale, minted in 1812 in Mexico City, under Ferdinand VII of Spain.

Welcome! The assayer's initials are H J, so it could also be 1813.

I have a similar half reale from 1780.

I like that gold band (bezel) around the coin. I've seen Spanish cob coins with the same. Where can you find that type of gold band, I'd like to put one of those bands around one of my 1700's Sicilian King Charles III silver coins.

I'm not sure about the origin of the band or the story behind it. I wish I did, but it was just a lucky find. I researched it a bit for ya, and I think it's just a 14K flat gold wire with 4 fixed 3-wire bales. The style appears spanish, but I'm not an expert by any means. New world treasures has some similar bezels online. Hope this is helpful, KC III silver wrapped in gold would look great!
