Hi , everyone. At first sight I though PMD , but from looking at it closer, it didn't look beat up. First thought pliers, but not bent. Lays flat. Weight is right. I am leaning towards die crack , or lamination. Or just junk ! Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you. Snap_17.jpg Snap_18.jpg Snap_20.jpg Snap_21.jpg Snap_22.jpg Snap_23.jpg

Looks like a good size die crack on the reverse and a clash on the obverse. I'll let someone else give the correct terminology.

Dang looks like it could split in two. I say damage becase the crack would flow under the lettering. Just my opinion.

Slight misaligned die strike on the obverse as well.

Would that be from thickness or metal fragments or something like that?

Just an imperfection in the Planchet. Usually an improperly mixed alloy.

Can't argue with that. But also possibly this might have been struck through some metal fragments on both sides. Above the statue and above Liberty at the rim. I know the rim looks like PMD but maybe a shattered die or another coin having broke up before this was struck? What do you think.

Hi Tommy. I am sending a new picture of the 1972 dd as I just got my microscope set up. I hope the picture is better. Still trying to work the bugs out of it.
