Did the US Mint ever produce a 4 coin set of plantium eagles? I was at my local shop and I saw a set in a blue box that looks very US Mint like but they were all uncirculated coins dated 2001. It contained a 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz and the 1/10 oz. I'm thinking it was an after market set but I wanted to check.

I have seen them, but they were made a while ago. I am pretty sure they were mint products, though.

Does it carry in premium over spot?

Some can. I don't think the 2001s do.

I think 2008 was the last year of the platinum sets...

Year by year info on the series can be found at: platinumeagleguide.com

The Platinum Eagle series has actually shown some very nice artwork except for the gawd awful, pedestrian depiction of the statue of liberty on the obverse. The reverses have actually been nice and interesting many years. I have thought of starting a set.
