Uncirculated Mint sets question.

    IC....thanks cladking. that acetone isn't touching that white frost on the kennedy. mineral oil?

    Where did you get this info? 4 layers? The mint sets from this era used Dupont MYLAR. The haze described occurs occasionally in mint and proof sets regardless of whether it is in an acrylic case or a MYLAR pack. It is probably due to improper washing of the planchets prior to the coining process and cannot be reversed without some damage to the coin. It is not the same as PVC slime.

    You can see one delaminate once in a while.

    I don't know what's causing the effect but had assumed that it was an extremely thin layer of PVC. Whatever it really is comes off though.
