IMO, This is a MS63 coin max... http://coins.ha.com/itm/indian-eagl...Item-Auction-Archive-BrowseThisAuction-120115
That coins not a 63. You would have a line a mile long selling "63"s that were every bit as good as that one.
If that coin is a 65+ CAC then mine is a 67+ CAC... my 64+ coin have way less gauge marks on the cheek.
you can't grade from images...especially gold. That field blemish is likely no where near as bad as it looks.
Heritage images are ~2000px in diameter and sharply-focused. Yeah, you can grade from them. Let's look at this from another direction. Would you draw a differentiation between the grade of the two coins pictured below?
First one has a better strike and possibly more luster, second is a bit soft in strike but appears to have fewer marks. With less marks the first one is likely in a 67 holder, personally I think the second even without marks with that strike would max out at 66. First coin isn't without faults, but the marks are certainly being played up with the pictures being the size of soup bowls.
And that is why you do not buy the sticker or the slab. I have noticed things like this on the newer stuff in the new pcgs and ngc slabs. Just seems like lately a lot of things slip thru that would not have - like Doug has been saying for years.
This coin isn't that bad, OK...there are some nicks and scruffs, but otherwise the luster is well above average.....I see a good amount of the aftersought red hue. In my opinion it' s a solid 64...maybe with a plus. I agree with you, that the second coin is in slightly better condition.
