Ugs & Ngc Grading Companies

Let me see, so you are suggesting that they should be in business to lose money to the collector? The day companies are not allowed to make a profit will be the day our economy and then our country dies.

Well, you could also look at it from this viewpoint..........the government wouldn't need our tax dollars to buy $200 hammers and $600 toilet seats.

No! They would still need it. They just would not have it.

 

The problem with Government is that it takes what it wants and calls it needs. This turnip is blood free.

As far as I'm concerned, UGS is considered a "First Party Graders or Self Slabbers."

This hobby is also home to many, many First Party Graders also known as self-slabbers. While some of these slabbers may accept submissions, they also grade their own coins for resale, thus their grading is not impartial.

I have no idea if this company is still in business or not, fly-by night companies abound as long as there is an e-bay.

Sorry if this seems harsh or biased, just call them as I see them.

Thanks for your profound post. The "Top Tier" TPG today seemingly have few constraints: in placing any grade on a coin, developing new standards without oversight, or allowing independent equitable mechanism for damage redress. They appear to have been given a Carte Blanche position by the collecting public who have unquestionably allowed the existing grading system to be destroyed by new grades within the existing grades, and establishment of seemingly diminished standards, while paying an increased premium. I suspect this will continue until the Internet Explorer Numismatic counterparts are replaced by a Firefox like nemesis, or independent adjudication is generated. Bah! Bah! We appear to bleat and follow acceptingly. I personally own too many pieces of certified Numismatic tripe to accept the premise that only a few may dictate the "industry" standards, and should be followed without reasoned objective review.

 

Has anyone else noticed the UGS label was created with microsoft word LOL with word art theme for UGS and copying and pasting.

 

Point of information. There have been two different companies called Universal Grading Service. The one whose slabs are pictured in the older part of this thread has been out of business for about five years now. The current UGS has been around for a year or less and uses a completely different generic slab shell.

Thanks for the info on DGS, I wasn't aware they have now quit slabbing. Too bad, I think they actually had potential but I don't think they ever managed to market themselves well.
