Really, this was the only rendition of Reagan they could come up with? What was it that Nancy was famous for saying? "Just say no to drugs." Don't smoke crack before deciding on coin designs.

@GUNNER63736, pretty much agree about the Iowa Effigy Mounds Quarter. When I first saw it, I thought, “OMG...they look like sugar cookies.”

You can like a series and the coin can still be ugly.

I love my 1999-D AU SBA (free find) 11M mintage, and it's still hella ugly.

He looks like George C Scott against Rommel, though Rommel was not there.

You know what's even more embarrassing? People willing to throw aesthetics under the bus in favor of turning this hobby into yet another political statement. Apparently, the mere concept that a depiction of an otherwise fine person can indeed be ugly is simply too much for some to understand. Even the most beautiful women in the world sometimes look terrible, is a very simple part of the human experience, and isn't something you can change by virtue signaling or trying to shame those who see things differently than you do.

Folks embracing such nonsense have already made countless people afraid to voice their opinion on pretty much anything out of the fear of being ignorantly labeled, so why not take the hobby down this slippery slope as well? After all, there's certainly no need for beauty in this hobby when PC pandering will surely draw in the masses.

Guess what? The man was ugly, and if we remove revisionist fluffery, he also wasn't anything remotely close to the god-like figure many portray him as being.

That said, and considering a coin is a physical representation of the person, is it really so wrong to "focus" on this aspect?

Thanks. The rifle is a model 1903 Springfield.
It is just a quirk of the model that the US Army had in 1917.

You got the details right on the glasses and rifle for sure. A much better design then the one they chose IMHO.

All of the finalist submissions were pretty much basically that same design.

I do believe that is actually the plan on these.

No they had several. The one the chose wasn't the best but it certainly wasn't the worst one either.

    Thanks,
I got the shape of the helmet correct also (unlike the chosen design) ;)

Yes but as I stated before the Lincoln Cent is not an ugly coin in part because of Brenner’s talent even though the subject was hideous in real life. He achieved this and the portrait looks just like Lincoln so he didn’t just put lipstick on old Abe. It was the talents of a master that made the Cent a true classic and a good looking coin.
