On the CAPS website, I see a CAPS Type Set album with 3 openings for Standing Liberty Quarters. Here is a link: http://www.capsalbums.com/1900s-2000s-type-set-album-2298
It is pretty clear to me that CAPS albums are the cream of the crop in terms of albums that do not 'hurt' coins in any way. However, my main concerns are the following: 1) The CAPS US Type Set pages should be expanded. 2) I've read that it can be challenging to pop out the air-tites which may cause damage (ex. plastic creasing/scratching) over time to slot backs and really detract from how the coins can be viewed. I upgrade my coins regularly so this is huge. 3) The massive upfront investment for the albums and air-tites. I collect all US circulating coins, all denominations. Replacing 30 Dansco (x ~$25ea) with 30 CAPS albums (x ~$28ea) plus air-tites (avg $40/album) will significantly hurt my 'coin budget'. Its hard to stomach ~$1200 just in air-tites.
I hear you! That is a huge investment for just the air-tites. Do you see the Dansco albums as a life-time solution, or will they have to be replaced after say, 30 years or other shorter/longer period than that?
I love the Dansco albums. I’ve always hated the plastic slides though. The brown albums and nice slip covers are tough to beat. I’ve had my collection in them for 20 years. If I don’t change to CAPS they will be there for another 20.
That's quite an endorsement for Dansco - I'll keep that in mind! I've had trouble with plastic slides myself - or the fraying on the album that occurs right where the plastic slides go in and out - annoying!
