Nope, ones a '76 and the other's a crude attempt at a '74 CC. He's also got a Morgan up for sale that is a rough counterfeit.
I would like to give this person the benefit of a doubt first. I should think that most people who deal with the public are honest. There is nothing substantial that says this coin is a fake yet and the seller has a pretty good feedback record. I will wait on the coin and post pictures when I get it, than let the Coin Talk jury decide. If it comes to a show-down I will send the coin in for slab evaluation and authenticy.
Apparently you haven't read the comments posted in this thread by knowledgeable collectors. I guess our opinions of "good feedback" are irreconcilable. This guy is a crook, plain and simple, and your refusal to acknowledge it could wind up costing you a bundle. Just curious - why on earth do you ask for comments and advice if you are going to ignore them?
Here are My Fakes.. They were free.. Thanks god.. ZERO Silver Content Light and when they touch they sound bad.. Like aluminum.. With lead.. mixed with just a bit of hate... I love them because they remind me to BE CAREFUL.. STAY AWAY FROM ANY ITEMS FROM CHINA!! You can get it here.. with recourse. China Trumps Feedback!!
The coin in the op is an obvious fake. The dentils are poorly formed, the rims uneven, and the surfaces are porous. You don't have to look beyond that, but if you do, you will see all sorts of problems with the finer details. Here is a link to a thread that may help you spot fakes: http://www.cointalk.com/t63695/
----------------------------------------------------------------------- I have no doubt that you are more knowledgeable than I, since you can decifer a fake coin from a picture. I have read every opinion because I asked for comments on how to determine a fake coin and some people have answered that specifically (including you). I did acknowlege the fact that I was leery about the coin coming from China. I don't know for certain the guy is a crook until I receive the coin and check some of the good advice that has been posted. I am not refusing to acknowledge or ignore yours or anyones advice, but I am in a postion where I have contracted and paid for the coin on a legitement auction and can now only hope for the best.
Since the majority of Coin Talk people have indicated that this coin is a fake, I have since worried that I did indeed make a bad investment. I have wrote to the seller about my concerns and here is his response. Dear Jiguo15, I have been advised that the photo of the 1874-S Trade Coin and some of your other coin items have been classifed as fake or copy coins. I do hope the coin you are sending me is not in this catagory. If it indeed turns out after varification that this coin is a fake. I will have you banned from E-Bay. Until I receive the coin and prove otherwise, I am still hopeful that you are an honest and upright dealer. Regards, Dave - mojavedave 1874 Old USA Eagle Silver Coin Trade Dollar K2 Dear Dave, Please don't worry. If you not like it when you receive, please send back to me. I will refund your payment. Hope you happy! Thank you!
Another classic case of throw "it" at the wall and see what sticks.... He'll offer refunds and "hey I'm sorry" to everyone..... and then laugh to the bank for all the ones that don't get returned.
jiguo15 is gone ebay finally listening, he has been kicked off, now if we can get everyone to report these con theives maybe we can make a dent in the flood of counterfeits
