Big turn in opinions here and who knows - that's the point.

Gonna have to single you out here though Spider. Everything you have said is happening already.

People do a great deal of money transactions on line. I don't myself but I'm becoming a minority real fast.
Coins are counterfeited all the time and now SLABS are being counterfeited.
So legit examples will have to be safeguarded by more advanced methods which will in turn be counterfeited. It will go on and on.

I'm going to lay a little thought on you all from Blaise Pascal the French Philosopher and Mathmetician.

"Everything that is perfected by progress also perishes by progress".

Very applicable here and with anything, forever basically.

The part about "being minted NOW" makes all the authorized answers wrong.

In 2158 if currency is used at all, and there has been no official devaluation, the lowest denomination will probably be either the $5 or $10 coins.

If we are talking about which current coins will be popular, I have to believe The big coins - Ikes, Peace, Morgans and kennedy Halves (as well as other halves).

As others have pointed out, there may not even be coins in 150 years and if there is, they'll be in some totally other form.

There's nothing like the feel of a full-sized silver dollar!!!! (IMHO) I think they'll be so strange, they are what will catch everyone's attention.

I'm sorry, but no one has really said "why" the Lincoln would be popular in 150 years - yet it leads the poll. I see absolutely no reason for it. In 150 years, my grandchildren will most likely be gone - so I can't see sentimental arguments.

    I said: Other.
In 150 years the 2008 coin will still be common & considered junk.

I am serious when I feel that vintage charge cards will be collected. There is NO reason to suspect they will not. Many are destroyed after expiration, which will enhance collectibility.

ALLL designs in use right now have been so for FAR TOO LONG! in 150 years from now, collectors will see the 100+/- years of the coins to collect from this era, and nort wish to be bothered. I think most of them will look back further to the time we all look at now. Sure, i think there will be folks who collect the 'garbage' we got now (sorry folks lol) but i think for the most part, i dont see them collecting whats here now - i choose 'other'

Why not? I can remember when food stamps were replaced by cards and people began looking for those.

I could have gotten them for a cash (a common practice around here at the time). Only problem was I would have had to go to some pretty rough neighborhoods to get them. Been there too many times and I'm not as brazen as I used to be.

You're probably correct. Everything is collectible if (1) it is old, (2) it is in good condition, and (3) nobody else bothered to save them. This extends to charge cards, McDonalds happy meal toys, draft cards, vintage computers, cell phones, and just about everything else that is part of present day culture -- including coins and currency.

There already is a group that collects credit cards and charge coins. They have been active for years.

Hmmm. In 2158 I will still be trying to complete my Lincoln cent collection. But silver proof sets will be hot. And those above ground will be trading them for thier lives with the Morlocks

Nothing like a little H.G. Wells to spice up a thread!

    Good one Craig!
