This is an area of numismatics that is often overlooked. Many merchant tokens have mintages of less than 1000, and can be purchased for a few dollars. Some of my favorites are from my local area. I like to think of them as "coins from the neighborhood". LOL</p><p>Hope this doesn't sound like rambling, but my point is, this is a wonderful hobby, and can be enjoyed in a multitude of different ways.</p><p>I also noticed you mentioned books. I believe my first book was a "Black Book". I don't recommend this book, but at the time it was probably all that I could afford. If I could recommend one book that all US coin collectors should have, it would have to be "The Red Book".</p><p>Oh yeah, I also make use of the local library.
