    Here is the 1972 D B calculations

    2 B's found out of 16,632 1972 D's out of 715,520 total quarters searched.
    1972 D mintage = 311.07 million
Estimated average number of quarters in circulation 1973-1988 period = 14 billion

    16,632 / 2 = 8,316 1972 D's per single B. 311,07 million / 8,316 = 37,406 1972 D B's.
    715,520 / 2 =357,760 quarters per single B. 14,000,000,000 / 357,760 = 39,132 D B
    (37,406 + 39132) / 2 = 38,269 average or 40,000 round numbers.

Breen based his data on my input, but also rounded off to round numbers.
    My 1969 D B estimate before rounding was 1,019,050
    1,019,050 / 114,370,000 approx. mintage = .891% or 1 % rounded.

    My 1970 D B estimate before rounding was 493,700
    493,700 / 723,860,000 approx. mintage = .0682 % or .1 rounded

I have a complete set of B's and M's. I probably don't have the two doubled dies listed in the CPG.

I am proud to finally present my Type B collection that I received back from NGC today. I am missing the 1960 (which stupid me put on the list, but forgot to mail to them) and the 1956. I was extremely pleased with the grades. I personally felt that all would grade at least MS64. 1 graded 65, 2 graded 64, 3 graded 63 and one graded AU58. That was the shocker out of the bunch. The strike was not the best, but no where do I see any rubs or wear on the coin. Oh well. Because of all the pics, I will post each date separately. Also, I would like to give a shout out to a member on here who has become a good friend and who very generously gave me 3 of these coins at no charge to add to my personal collection. Words cannot express the sincere thanks and appreciation.

Wow...great work! Do you ever exhibit your collection at any of the shows? I would like to see them up close.

I would have like to meet Mr. Breen in person...his Encyclopedia of Half Cents is my "bible".

I see one of my images has been posted to the site, but I thought I would add a couple more:

I like that picture and it helped me with the B's.

Do we have any picture like that of the "M's"?

And jaceravone nice set there!! I still have a few to go with mine.

Sorry, I don't. I'm a Cent collector that like to edit photos to fill my educational library. That one is still missing. When some good images come up, I'll add them to my collection to share with other collectors. It's just something I do.

Very nice collection!! Are you going to start searching for the clad Type-B's? Mega-bucks if you find one! Btw, do you have the 1964-D Type-C reverse?

Not yet and I am not sure that I am going to collect these yet. My head is still spinning with all this talk of the Type M! :rolling:

For those of you who looked at my 57 Type B, what do you think about sending it about for a "second opinion"? Heck, grade it MS60, but grade it for what it is....uncirculated. I am not an expert by any means, but I just don't agree with the grade assigned the coin.

It does look from the picts that it is undergraded to me.

Within that little area of the central picture, there are several other clues.
    1) top barb of the arrowpoints is missing
    2) gap between leaf and arrowpoints is partially filled in.
    3) second leaf to the left of the arrowpoints is extended, usually looks doubled.
    4) extreme relief between the bottom of the wing edges and field.

  20. Joe,

Great Type B set! I especially like the 1964. I have been having trouble finding that one but am still on the hunt. I do not know what to say about the 1957. I would grade it MS64 due to the hit on the neck and the wing. I am definitely going to send my Type B's in for grading now. Thanks!

  21. Has anyone found a Type B quarter contained in a US Mint set? If so, what years? I have four 1959 and two 1960 Mint sets with Type B Washington quarters. TC
