flyer, that sure looks like a "B" to me! and you got all of those! WOW mpcusa, I dont think that yours is one but I'll let the others tell you better then me.
Starting to look like there are so many '58 Type B's that the non-Type B's could be rarer than the Type B's.
I was thinking the same thing. mpcusa's is not a type B, See how the leaf above the A in DOLLAR is weak? That's a sure marker it is not. Also, there's not a defined "gap" between the E and S in STATES.
I just went through my meager quarter collection from this time period. All are Type As. I only have two silver quarters from this time frame, both of which were saved by my parents when they were still circulating, and neither are in great shape. I went through my clad era quarters, of which I have every date, but they were not Type Bs eithers. I had been meaning to do this for some time now and just hadn't gotten to it. Oh well...I'll keep checking my clads when I get them, luckily I get to go through more quarters then anything else as we don't have a washer/dryer here at home. I do have my spares stash, I think I have one more example of each clad date saved, I need to pull them out and check, but I keep the best example of each date for my main collection, so even if they are in there, they will be worse shape then the ones I've already checked. I don't have extras of the silver quarters so I am sure I don't have them.
My dad has a few rolls of 1964 quarters that all look unc to me.He was about to let me bring them home and try selling on ebay. But he has several pounds of old silver which he was intending to sell for scrap.Instead he gave me some walking liberty halves to test the water, before letting me try to sell them.He is over 80 and wants the money from them and isn't easily convinced not to let them go for scrap. For some reason he has a lot of the 1964 dimes as well.Any suggestions?
Well . . . average silver coins, like the '64 dimes, will probably sell for around melt value on eBay -- which might be more than you can get selling them elsewhere. Things that are older, such as Walking Liberties, will get you a bit more. Check "completed listings" on eBay to get a sense of the going rate. Also, some of the older stuff (Walkers) you might want to sell here on CT!
Looks like a lot of talk of the Type-B. I'am from across the street and was looking arond and found this forum. This is my 1st post here so be gentle.
Type2, Welcome!!! I frequent both forums (same name over there). Frankly, this is the tamest forum I've seen, so don't worry about harshness here. Your knowledge will be a boon to this forum. And, there is much talk about type B Washies. I believe there is much more interest in them than just from ATS.
Thanks for the welcom. Just last night I posted a grop of Type-B's that I picked up all 1957's, But some very nice ones. I'll go with MS65+ on all or most of them I'll try to post a pic. Once agan thanks for the welcom. Not trying to jack your post just like to show some coin's.
WOW!!! Very nice collection. PS - Jacking of threads is allowed, but you have to pay the OP one 57 Type II Quarter to do so... oh wait, the OP is ME!!! How about that!?!??! Funny how these things work out!
Ya you would think. Most of my collection is Jefferson and a Lincoln cents some Gold, Silver, Plat. I look for DD/RPM and so on. I play with a lot of coins.
Just added a 1960 US Mint Set (with a nice bright white Type B Washington quarter in it) to my collection. So, I now have a 1959 and 1960 US Mint Set with the Type B quarter and may now try for a 1956-64 set of these. Given the low mintages of these mint sets coupled with the "relative" rarity of the Type B quarters, this may be a challenging task though. TC
Congrats! I'm in the same boat as you. I think I'll add them to my collection. The problem is I'll go from being content with a low/middle MS example to wanting a better quality example and so on... TopCat, I think I remember hearing you say you collect 32-64. Have you considered getting into the Clads?
Yes, I am thinking of expanding into the post-64 clads. There was an interesting debate in another thread concerning the quality of mint set coins and potentially distinguishing them from the business strikes. For me, quality is key. TC
Just got my second 1959 Mint Set with a gem Washington Type B quarter. Interestingly, both of these mint sets also contain the Franklin Type 2 reverse halves as well. TC
