Two type of errors

Due to the complexity and subtlety of the error, I can't come to any conclusion without examining it myself under a microscope. Depending on the angle of the shot and the area that's been zeroed-in on, it variously resembles a layer of glue, a strike-thru, a struck-in metal fragment, and a planchet problem.

I'm learning too much about how so many things can go wrong at once. And here is my conclusion~
The coin has a planchet/lamination problem
that was struck through
with an inclusion
before it got stained
and somebody tried to glue it to back together?

I LOVE it.

Here's my plan. I get $1000 insurance, mail it off to you, Mike.
Hope it gets lost in transit and I can buy a better camera!

I at 1st also thought it had some crazy glue on it. That was months ago and I started looking at CONICA posts. I've always loved the odd.
And now that I've become more intimate with the coin and the things that can happen to a coin (made from gold/shot into space/abducted by aliens/stolen from the Smithonian/used to buy stamps)....

I need to send this to you so you can write it up for CONECA!!!

It's a no lose deal for me. If I ever see it again I can then put it up on eBay and still buy a new camera.

If you want to PM the address to me I will entrust it to you and let you do your thing and we all will learn.....What could possible go right with this coin?

If you had this coin you are probably better off getting this coin authenticated maybe. I know this coin is a lamination error look at the fields no it could be striation marks too a polished die maybe no WHAT DOES EVERBODY THINK ABOUT THE FIELDS OF THIS COIN.

Could not stop myself.

Just went and dropped her into a acetone bath.

I feel like the Texan before his hanging~when asked if he had any last words, replied "This is sure gonna be a lesson to me."

Got some NEW 100% acetone and a clean ceramic saucer. Placed the coin at an angle so I got the most exposure to the acetone, covered it up with another saucer after submerging it and put it out in the garage overnight to soak.

Well, of course it was all evaporated by this morning. duh.:hammer:

Refilled the saucer for a few hours again this morning. Retrieved it: Took some pictures.

Now it looks like a stained rusted bad plancet with less glue on it.

It also seems to have grown a CUD above the L of Liberty!

But I really jumped back in with an old question.

What is WHIZZED? Ultrasonic cleaning or do you just pee on it?

 

As I said, glue can be deceptive. No need to send it to me now, of course.

Whizzed coins are polished with a rotating brush. They feature hairline scratches. Quite ugly under high magnification.

I don't really understand how you could not tell there was glue on the surface of your coin in the first place makes no sence to me

I have come across many in circulation, and it was so obvious when I had the coin in hand that I new right away it was glue ,to be honest with you a novice could even distingush the differance on a coin not to be disrespectful to you ,and I still don't see how glue could be that deceptive in the photos usually there will be a white apearance on the fields somewhere to indicate this. (There's more to this story)

I was not attempting deception but rather seeking explanation.

Perhaps after your eyes, when they pass the 60 year mark as mine have, you will understand. I tried to be kind to the coin in the beginning but only after I got harsh did I (we) figure it out.

Being born stoopid is something I'm trying to outgrow which is why I ask questions here.

Oh, and don't solder 25 micron platinum wires to stainless steel braided wire for a living while looking through a microscope or have welding sculptures as a hobby as I have done, if you expect to always see what is obvious to others forever.

You may notice I use a large font here quite often. It gives me a chance to read what I've done wrong with fewer mistakes on my part as I attempt to outgrow my novice apprenticeship.

Didn't Beethoven end up going deaf? So what's wrong with trying to be a semi~blind coin collector?:kewl:

I just took exception to being taken for an intentional deceiver.

Gets my hackles up. Just let me be less stooopid as I learn here.

Besides, if you have ever spent any time handling really HOT metal you get callouses so one can not discern subtle surfaces.

You, as a percussionist, perhaps have big knuckles.
