I found these dimes roll searching today. One, a 1973 has an uneven rim, that appears to be doubled on one side. The other is a 2003; it's extremely thick, I'd say almost twice as thick as a normal dime, but only around the rim it seems. The rim does seems to protrude out much higher than any other dime I've ever seen, on both sides. Here's some pics. So the usual questions pertain. What the heck are they? How did they happen? What's are they worth if anything special? And what should I do with them?
Oh I suppose it's also worth mentioning that the thick dime's rim is completely smooth. None of the normal pattern.
In the first picture, the coin on the right (the 1973) seems slightly off-center. I believe it isn't enough off-center to be worth too much. I have also heard that some rims on coins become smooth from being dropped into slot machines/dryers. However, it could be something else. Clearer photos would help.
Sorry man, what you see is what I can do. Camera phone. Maybe one of these days I'll remember to get my actual camera back from my best friend >.<. I know it's off center, I'm just slightly perplexed by the two lines. Is that common with off centers?
"I know it's off center, I'm just slightly perplexed by the two lines. Is that common with off centers?" If by the two lines you mean the double rim, then that does happen at times with off-centers (there is no significant additional value...but it is still a coin to keep). By the way, for more info look at these threads: http://www.cointalk.com/t180048/ http://www.cointalk.com/t167552/
"I know it's off center, I'm just slightly perplexed by the two lines. Is that common with off centers?" If by the "two lines" you mean what appears to be a doubled rim, then yes that is not unusual. See these links: http://www.cointalk.com/t180048/
