I have spent the last 3 hours trying to get decent photos of these two new pennies. It's been a real challenge and will reshoot them when I get a new camera in a couple of weeks. I was going to go on a picture taking binge but don't want to waste the time with the old camera. Here are the new coins. Congratulations! Coincidentally just today I bought a very similar William I penny. I'm currently going through an English hammered penny craze
Do the coins look red? Try using manual white balance when you get the new camera. I might suggest a little less harsh light and directing it more from the top but this is mostly a matter of moving the lights or the coins until you see what you like.
No, the coins themselves don't look red. I'm using a single low watt LED bulb from about 18 inches above and a foot or so to the side. They still came out very washed out and had to be darkened and contrast added. I had the white balance set to fluorescent as that seems most natural. I'll try again tomorrow and move the light around and experiment some more. I've had better luck in the past. It's frustrating.
Congrats on the new coins @alde they are both great. I would love to add a coin of William I to my collection one day.
