This is my whole thing with both of these coins. Let me first say I'm not the best with either of these series. But something doesn't look right on the Morgan. Now when you have the 2 together I would then question the half as well. I would ask myself, being such a key coin that the half is, you said estimated to be 200 left? I'm not even a dealer but if I got my hands on these coins in some way they would go straight to pcgs. Why isn't this dealer doing that? Regardless of whether they look right or not. We can look at that half and figure it's cleaned. But we can't tell if it's genuine. Even if it weights proper it can be fake. I've heard people here say they wouldn't buy a 1916 d mercury dime unless it was slabbed. I would trust this far far less.
This is the information that's needed to make an informed opinion of a coins authenticity and value. Thanks for the link. Edited to add: Wow! This book is awesome. Again thanks!
He has books for the other branch mints, too. I keep online attribution materials like this bookmarked on my website here.
When I'm judging two or more coins, and my budget will only allow me one, I go with my gut feeling. Which one causes my heart to sort of skip a beat, and I go with it. I, personally, like the Half Dol. the most. Let us know your final decision when you make it.
I've probably said enough. And if the OP wants to buy a CC coin from, I assume, a local coin shop, that's great. Still, there are other fish in the sea, and just for myself, I'm not sure I'd buy either one if I was looking to spend a thousand bucks on one neat coin. I'll admit the rarity of the half has appeal. But, just throwing this out there, I think coins like this for example could be in the consideration. Sorry if I'm out of line, I guess this is the internet though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1808-7-Bus...p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
Longshot there are other coins out there I know. I pulled the trigger on some other coins today that you might like. I’ll post shortly
My thoughts? I wouldn‘t buy any of them. Although the CC half may be a scarce coin, it does not have much detail left, it was improperly cleaned and is raw/uncertified. Sorry, but I think there are better deals out there.
That's about what I calculated from my 10 year old redbook. About $250 for the Net VG8 Half and about $2000 for the Net 25 Dollar. Both have issues, but are scarce. A mintage of 125,000 with an estimate of 200 survivors for the Half messes with the rarity. A 350,000 mintage for the dollar and I would suspect a higher survival rate IF they made it into circulation which many did not. I wonder how many GSAs of that variety were released. But the prices absolutely do not reflect the rarity, just the demand.
73 is WB-1. After all, the best way to differentiate them is draw an imaginary line from the ends of the one.
The dollar is nowhere near VF25. VG10 or F12 is probably what it would grade. It's a $950 coin, frequently available through major auctions in all grades.
