It's not a doubled die. Why did you post this thread twice? Use the "Report" button and ask the Mods to delete the other thread. Chris
this penny has been sittin drawer for over a month and I've been overlooking it can anybody tell me the value if there's any you have to look close at the at the tracing around the face and a double chindoes that mean you got a double da double chin View attachment 522576
Sorry not a major error.. worth 1C Could be some type of ghosting due to die wear I want to share this webpage with you - http://www.error-ref.com/ Look through this website and get some info on error coins
I see what you're referring to OP, kinda looks like Lincoln's face is casting a shadow, but ya like collecting nut said it's just wear. Still a nice coin though, I'd b happy with any 90 yr old wheat
I would say the shadow is the result of a weak strike, not wear. Of course, without the reverse it's impossible to put a grade on this coin, but I would guess a midgrade such as F or VF. Assuming no damage to the reverse, this could has a retail value between $3 and $5. It's obviously worth more than 1c.
I don't see any doubling on the face, either, and, granted, the photo is blurry, but doesn't the date look like it is doubled? Steve
I think the shadow he sees may be a result of die wear. I remember reading a very involved explanation of what causes this and it involved die wear but I can't remember the entire explanation. I don't think I fully understood it when I read it either.
thank you for your answers I'm still learning I don't ask questions I'll never get to the answer thank you very much
