Yep, it is fun to collect that way....it adds such an interesting contrast.....and that redefined Nerva As to a Dupondius is still one I was lacking, having only a denarius of that particular ruler before this purchase. I'm after an AES Rude again...and I still would love an example or two of the cast and early struck RR types....Hmmm, my New Year's resolution of 'focusing' seems to have already proved a failure LOL
Rude, Rude, Rude! I read where they poured the molten bronze into a vat of water, and stirred it. Broke up the chunks into smaller pieces. Must have been way cool to watch: flash steam, explosive cool down, and a fun way to make pocket change!
"NEW" things?!? LOL, I like my stuff RR and 2000+ years old. But you are right, if I don't have it; then it "NEW" to me!
I will say, holding my Aes Grave Quadrans, or even the Uncia is cool... The cast coin just has a different specific gravity feel vs. pounded coins... Pretty cool. I am hooked to be like the Cracker Jack prize: gonna collect them all!
