Hello all. It's "Two-Cent Tuesday" again. Post yours also. My favorite in the copper category as far as design goes. I've found around 5 of these while Metal Detecting over the years! My best was a small motto that I regret selling to a member on this site. Here are just a few of them... Also, me finding 3 of them years ago.
The 1864 Small Motto Two Cent Piece is not as rare as you might think. I cherrypicked a couple of them from other dealers when I was a dealer. If it's a Red Book variety, I think that you should know your business if you are in the business. The Small Motto was actually a pattern die that the mint decided to use for regular issue coins.
Thanks, but I knew that already learning it from when I found it Metal Detecting years ago. What isn't clear is the number of coins minted with the small motto and all its other differences. What I do know is it is quite rare to find one while detecting according to other Detectorists.
