I've been super busy with the 3 day weekend coming up and a bunch of deadlines.... but i looked real quick and they are going for more than i anticipated. Didn't appear i was gonna be able to basically steal one after all.
As it is with many auctions, I imagine that most everything is “protected.” There is nothing rare about the 1909-S-VDB. When I was a dealer, at one show, the guy next to me had about 300 of them, all NGC certified. He told me he had a lot more of them at home.
Well, I ended up buying 6 of the 1909-S VDBs (went in planning on only buying 3). All, even with buyer's premium, were under Grey Sheet prices, except that one was a details coin which I intend to crack out and include in an album collection. Ended up with a damn XF 1937-D 3-legged buffalo nickel where I erroneously hit the bid button when I meant to bid on another 1909-S VDB. Not a buffalo nickel collector, so I'll sell it and try to recoup most of my cost on that one.
