I actually thought Sulla was the better Imperator. Although he represented the Aristocracy, he was an Imperator, marched on Rome, was a Dictator, fought with Marius, but when it was all over with... he relinquished Imperium and RETIRED!

I was always a fan of Marius myself. I believe he was an uncle to Julius Caesar.

Yes, Marius was his Uncle. And he was a Novos Homo...New Man for Rome as he was born in one of their Allied Cities. He was also an awesome reformer of the Legio, and enacted a lot of the Gracchii Reforms. Unfortunately, towards the end he suffered what was believed a stroke, and became VERY vindictive. Hence, Sulla had to March on to Rome, subdue Marius' followers (mainly recruited Gladii). He self-exiled. Yes, he won 7 Consulships...the last one was only for a week or so when he died.... I loved him up to the end where he became extremely erratic. I was not FOR Sulla, until the end when he RETIRED. That spoke VOLUMES. This is why I love the RR and collect this period and earlier...

I could go on and on about Caesar and why he allowed himself the Ides of March...

FURTHER to that: Caesar also wrote his COMMENTARIES...this was a HUGE propaganda push for him!
