Zumbly, was your original vision a 12 Caesars denarii set? If so, I think you have found some very envious 'place-holders'!
Great set! Lots of good portraits in this set. I love all the other sets as well. The period of the Twelve Caesars is arguably the most dynamic, formative, and compelling historical period not only of the Roman Empire but of Euro-centric civilization as a whole. These coin sets inspire one's imagination about this period.
Thanks! Even the original vision wouldn't have been an all-denarii set. For example, I'd eventually like the Nero bronze with the Apollo Citharoedus reverse and the Caligula Three Sisters sestertius. Also, one of the Judaea Capta coins for either Vespasian or Titus. The final version of my set is probably a good number of years away .
Thanks for the coinpliments, everyone. I enjoyed seeing all the other sets shown! Now, while I let this set slowly progress towards its final version, I'll be on to my next set - one showing the shell pattern evolution of Aegina sea turtles. They will all be missing a minimum of one flipper as my calculations indicate that that's the only way I'll be able to afford them. Ok, just kidding about that set.
Very nice sets friends ! Zumbly, I love how you display your coins. I must admit liking particularly the Julius Caesar and the Claudius : what a face on the second ! Here is my own set (everyone here as probably already seen it several times ! Q
Kinda funny/cool => everybody but Mat chose the same Vitellius example (oh, and the dolphin/raven is certainly the coin that I'd want as well => but hats-off to Mat for marching to a different drumma!!) => you ROCK, my coin-friend!!
Coin picked me cause it was under $70. But I admit I don't care for the Dolphin one since it's one of his most common.
Wow Z how'd i miss this, awesome set well done!!!all the sets here are sweet!! i just need Otter also to complete mine.
