All Business Strike 1877 IHCs were apparently struck with the same reverse die. These coins will not necessarily have a weak reverse strike; rather, they will have a "Shallow N" in ONE on the reverse that is characteristic of the '77 Business Strikes. The 1877 Proof IHCs have a "Bold N" reverse. (A circulated 1877 IHC with a "Bold N" could be a circulated Proof. Or it could be an altered date.)
Okay - let me in on how you know it is 1872? Because the same reverse hub was used in both 1872 and 1877. There are also shallow N's in both 1870 and 1871 also. So why suspect 1872?
I think in hand the coin isnt as orange as the picture but it does definatly lean to the orange side.Overall I am agreeing with the the color being off ,but I had to take the shot with PCGS. I grade the coin as an AU58 -
