You guys have been great, and I don't know my way around the forums yet so I hope you won't mind my asking a follow up question. It's pretty simple: since my stroke, I have developed maddening hand tremors. Again, living off a disability check, I can't in good conscience ask my family to sacrifice dollars so I can learn a hobby when there are much more pressing needs. So the question is, can one of you guys suggest any consistent, reliable technique where I can take pictures with a midrange fone and I won't ruin it with my shaking hands? I've tried propping the fone, propping the coin, standing on my head, rubbed my head and patted my stomach, but unless I nail the fone to something I still blur the pics just pushing the camera button. It almost always takes a dozen or more tries to get a photo that still may or may not show what I'm trying to show. As a bonus question, is there a good magnifying app for Android?

Sorry to be such a whiner, but the one thing I have learned about coin collecting is you guys are the kind of person I want to be when I grow up. Thanks for everything.

One of the coolest garage photo fix-ups I ever saw came from a fix I saw here on CT. Those little phone holders that lots of folks buy for their car and later set aside make a super photo stand for your phone. I love ingenuity and this one works pretty darned well. If you have one collecting dust in your garage, re-purpose it for a phone/photo stand.

You mean I'm not the only one taking a dozen or more pics to get one good ONE? Whew!

Sometimes phone cameras have a 10 second or so delay to get into the picture. Set it on a book or something else and the hit the button and wait.

Sam, try resting the phone on top of a jar or block, so that only the camera part overhangs. The phone should then be pretty steady. That works for me. Safer than standing on your head too, I think. 20200204_212832.jpg

Things I've learned studying coins: 1. there are some great people with unbelievable knowledge in numismatics. 2. I'm not one of them. 3. I will never be a professional photographer 4. My wife is really an angel.

Now, the things I haven't learned: everything about coins.

No matter why, I'm just not quite "getting it," so I pulled a few things out and I was hoping someone would be kind enough to explain in kindergarten words. I'll try one at a time to see if I don't have to bother you guys any more than I have to.

Thanks for all the help and I'm wishing you all the best weekend ever. 20200207_233942.png 20200207_235436.png 1581134333983.png
