Yes, the coin in the original post is a copper-plated zinc cent with some bubbling of the outer plating, most likely due to corrosion. So it's post-mint damage, rather than a mint error.

The 1944 cent looks to have some damage as well.

It looks like zinc rot erupting beneath the mint mark.

All caps doesn't make your message louder or clearer. He's a new member, show some patience if you're going to respond.

    I concur.

Zinc is a wretched metal for coinage. (The Nazis used it extensively during WW2 at home and in their occupied territories, so there ya go- one more bad association. Boo, Nazis.) At least the US Mint has wrapped it in a thin copper outer layer for these post-1982 cents, but even then, its inner evil often shows through. This is what happens when that inner zinc core gets compromised. If you're a metal detectorist like I have been, you know all too well what terminal "zinc rot" looks like once a "Stinkin' Zincoln" has been buried for a few months or years.

With all that zinc out there, should we be expecting shorter duration colds and flu?

Doesn't the 44 look like some lamination thru the jaw of Lincoln? :pompous:

I agree with the other poster; patience is a virtue...he is learning and will need some guidance. Yelling in CAPS is yet another reason people come to this site and leave then they spread their experience with their 10 friends and their 10 ten friends tell their 10 friends, and so on and so on. Get the point? We are all human and make mistakes; learning from them is a sign of maturity. Just some friendly advice. Hope you take it to heart. Enjoy what remains of your day.
