Ross bargained with Australia in 1913. to produce the coinage. The token coinage was made of an ivory-colored plastic. Each denomination bears an individual serial number plus the authorizing inscription J. S. CLUNIESROSS. The coral group became a British protectorate in 1856, was attached to the colony of Ceylon in 1878 and placed under the administration of the Straits Settlements in 1882.
