Have you ever heard of Mabila money? While searching for something different/strange/newsworthy/littleknown, I came upon a commemorative coin issued by Cameroon in 2005 commemorating the Primitive iron money of the indiginous Mabila Tribe whose people occupied a territory in Northeast Cameroon near the Nigerian border. Thanks to the courtesy of Don's World Coin Gallery here is a photo of that commemorative coin: http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/coine_wd.php?dir=img16&image=34-26&desc=Cameroon%20km26%201500%20CFA%20Francs%20(2005)%20Primative%20Mambila%20money&query=Cameroon%20mambila. To know more about the Mabila people you can visit: http://lucy.ukc.ac.uk/dz/Archive/intro.html Here's a website maintained by Scott Semans which has a good many photos of Mabila Bat or Hoe money. Some are photos of Mabila Money for sale and some are archived photos of "already sold" Mabila money. I present this link only as a way to see photos of the different forms of Mambila money, not as a recommendation of Scott Semans nor his firm (however I had satisfactory transactions buying a great many gold Fanams from him 30-35 years ago): http://www.hamillgallery.com/CURRENCY/MAMBILACURRENCY/MambilaCurrency1.html Was this interesting?
