One would think that the United States' Mint facilities would have the finest Quality Control Department in the world, but if you're an error coin collector who searches mint sewn bags or boxes of mint rolled coins for errors you know some errors slip by undetected.

Let's you and I take a few moments to examine some of the State Quarter errors that eluded the mint's experts. Is your State Quarter among these? (Coin Page photos).

Note: Some mints produced more than one error. Some single error mintages were produced at each branch of the U.S. Mint (P,D,S).

Hello.. I have been Searching for more info on the 1999 Delaware State Quarters P. Mint, that Where in fact Struck on Experimental metal. Approximately 15 where struck of the Sacagawea planchet the coin did Not come out looking really gd at all.. however around 2008. Three of these where sold for $3,000 $6,000 and one for $10,000. They also struck another type of Experimental metal... Mostly this quarter was struck with Nickel alloy No Copper Core at all.. No copper at all. The reason I know this much... Is cause I found one recently it's in very very nice condition. I got it from a roll of quarters from a store. They where sitting in a draw I asked the lady if I could buy a roll she replied Sure. I returned home later put the roll in my hand.. I pushed the quarters out to see if I happened to land a silver quarter. ? And I was like Yes... a silver quarter "Thinking that was what I had".. I was blown away when I realized it was a State quarter, the 1999 Delaware State Quarter minted in Philadelphia. I started researching it and that was all the info I could find. Imagine having 1 of possibly 15 Quarters ever made with an experimental alloy from the U.S. Mint. I'm very surprised that there is not much info on this subject even though the Mint confirmed they did this, or That Collectors are not seeking them out. The 1st State hood quarter on experimental metal. But then again.. the 1943 Copper penny started the same way. Or close.
