<p>[QUOTE="Clinker, post: 248648, member: 6229"]<font face="Arial"><font size="3"><i>Modern Coins With Angels on Them</i> is another time consuming task, but one that can, at times, be an inspiring project, as one experiences man's attempts at beauty in religious art. Most of the <i>angels</i> you will see adorning the following coins will be of female persuasion, but some Biblical scholars will quickly point out there is no mention of female <i>angels</i>. All <i>angels </i>mentioned in the Bible have male names. However we can choose to admire the artistry of those mortals who created feminine Heavenly creatures.</font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"> </font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3">Also, there are those who will wonder where the gold coins named <i>Angel</i> are. Let me address that fact now. <font face="Times New Roman">An <b><i>Ange</i>l</b> is a gold coin, first used in France where it was known as an <b><i>Angelo</i>t</b> or <b><i>Ange</i></b> in 1340. Perhaps the <i>Angel</i> coin most known by modern collectors is the English version. Edward IV was responsible for it becoming an English gold coin by replacing the gold Nobel with an "<i>Angel-nobel"</i>. One reason the "<i>Angel-nobel" </i>is not listed in my trivia is, it was last issued in 1642. The second reason is, there is not a depiction of an <i>Angel</i> on the coin. The figure on the coin is a rendition of <b>Saint Michael and the dragon</b>. And the Mexican Libertads are not included because the image is not an angel, but an artist's rendition of the goddess Victory with wings (winged Victory).</font></font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"> </font></font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman">See photo courtesy of Wikipedia:</font></font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"> </font></font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Henry_VIII%27s_Angel.jpg" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Henry_VIII%27s_Angel.jpg" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Henry_VIII%27s_Angel.jpg</a></font></font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"><font face="Times New Roman"><br /></font> </font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"> </font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3">Here's my first selection to begin this trivia::</font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"> </font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3"> </font></font></p><p><font face="Arial"><font size="3">Our next example hails from a one-time minting of the Commonwealth of New Island.
