I'm sure this 3 centavo will come in handy in El Salvador. I was hoping to visit British Honduras tonight too, but I think I hear a jaguar in the jungle so I'd better retire for the evening.
I'll wait for you to catch-up to me in Managua Nicaragua. I'l meet you at the Hacienda Puerta Del Cielo Ecolodge & Spa. It is an up-scale hotel but the Cordoba I posted is apparently a valuable antique coin & it can purchase a lot in Nicaragua. We have some small change we can spend when you arrive. P.S. let me know when you arrive in Nicaragua so we can all travel to Costa Rica together.
While waiting for you guys I exchanged some money for when we go to Costa Rica. I think they ripped me off. I received this defective coin in the change. It looks to be struck off center.
I hope that our virtual tour guide sonlarson catches up to us at the capital of Costa Rica (San Jose). Crossing the boarder into Costa Rica we find these counter struck coins. Apparently, Costa Rica counter-stamped coins from other countries (including the CAR) in order to make them legal money for commerce in Costa Rica. They used this lion counterstamp for this purpose beginning in 1849. The female head counterstamp was used to designate coins equivalent to 2 Reales in 1845.
I'll catch up with you guys as soon as I'm done visiting Belize. I hope these British Honduras coins I have are still accepted.
Got caught in Honduras with no money. Wired home for some and it's on the way. Expect it around the 8th. Was able to see some of the local sights. Best rain forest I've seen since Hawaii. Got some free food at one of the Maya parties. Hope to catch up with crowd in Nicaragua
Finally made it to Nicaragua. Not a lot of spending money, but I see some of my traveling partners have brought plenty. Party time!
Panama Pill I’m going to catch up with Ripley in Panama. These little pill-shaped coins from Panama are all over the place. They are so small that they must fall through the holes in people’s pockets. Nice thing about visiting Panama is that the US dollar trades at par with the Balboa. You can spend your dollars conveniently in Panama.
Hello CoinTalkers, From Panama we will obviously be entering Columbia. The Department of State might suggest we stay together and be careful. Here is a little reality for this virtual trip. Venezuela's Hugo Chavez passed away today. That means that there could be some political unrest in Venezuela. I learned a long time ago that you should avoid traveling in countries where political unrest exists. Let make our Columbia & Venezuela trek as a group, make it quick, and stay under the radar.
Columbia's Lazareto & Maracaibo & Isla de Providencia I know a place in Columbia & a couple places in Venezuela where we can stay! The drug cartel & political unrest won’t find us. Very few people would visit these very old abandon places today. These places were used as Leprosy colonies during the first part of the 20th Century. I happen to have some currency that we can use while we are there. Don’t worry, Leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is treatable today & only a small percentage of the world’s population is susceptible to the disease.
1930 5 Pesos Centenario 1830 Uruguay Gold Coin very rare These coins were struck in a large mintage however never issued and most all of them were melted. only a few thousand were saved.
