Why any photos of coins of course. Unfortunately, I am left to collecting vicariously through others at the moment. Family needs have taken over my coin budget.
Very good read, nice spread over the several days. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Sent from my ZTE B2017G using Tapatalk
Nice write up Kurt. I hope to make it to Orlando in March (change of plans for Fort Lauderdale). I see that you'r taking Amtrak. Sleeper or Coach? I've done both and sleeper is way better but way more in price. On a positive note though, they do keep you well fed.
Since I'm travelling solo in March, and my ability to sleep soundly in an Amfleet 2 coach seat is near-narcoleptic, I'm doing coach, and it'll run me about 4,700 points. It's a good value. If Nick were going to be with me, I'd do a Roomette. He doesn't sleep as well as I do in coach. I already am ticketed from ORL to PHL leaving on March 11.
Dave, one thing I've never gotten the time to perfect is "coin porn". I know it's a major CT stock in trade; it's not my thing.
Did you get a chance to see TDN's early dollar exhibit? That one almost got me to make the trip just to see that in person.
I did, but that was not part of the competitive exhibits section. There was lots of good stuff in the non-competitive and commercial spaces, including some very special pieces at both NGC and PCGS booths.
I've never really followed the competitive exhibits circuit, but thinking about it that does make sense that the best sets are non-competitive since after all who will really be able to compete with sets of that caliber.
I'm afraid competitive exhibiting is becoming a dying art as the number of people collecting with a purpose (other than making a quick buck) is declining. Silver and gold stacking is NOT collecting, it's hoarding. The serious collector segment is shrinking. Once you get past Tom Uram, John and Nancy Wilson, Simcha Kuritsky and a few fellows from Florida and Chicago, the ranks of serious exhibitors gets a little thin.
