Mine collection Trajan Æ Sestertius. Rome, AD 114-116. IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, laureate and draped bust right Trajan seated right on platform, accompanied by two officers and guard, addressing six soldiers (one with horse); three standards behind soldiers; IMPERATOR VIII / S C in two lines in exergue RIC 656; Woytek 548v. Rough 24.8.g, 34mm. Sestertius Trajan's acclamation by his troops as imperator for the eighth time occurred after the fall of the city of Singara in 115 during his campaigns on the eastern frontier. Singara itself was a strongly fortified post at the northern extremity of Mesopotamia, which for a while was occupied by the Romans as an advanced colony against the Persians. It was the camp of legio I Parthica. Its position, south-east of Nisibis, has not been clearly defined by ancient writers, Stephanus of Byzantium calling it a city of Arabia, near Edessa, and Ptolemy placing it on the Tigris. There can, however, be no doubt that it and the mountain near it are represented in the present day by the district of Singar (in modern-day Iraq).
Absolutely fantastic---I LOVE everything about it!!!! Without a doubt, that would be one of my ultimate favorites if it were in my collection....
A great coin indeed. I would much prefer to own a coin like this, with good detail that's honestly showing its age, rather than all the tooled crap you see coming out of certain major auction houses.
Indeed true a lot of tooling crap!i like coins to where you can see his age. i have this coin bough, the euro was more for the dollar price.
This coin and others like it are of great historical importance. Very nice to have in one's own collection.
