I haven't had much time to post here lately but I thought I'd show off this beauty which arrived today. The coin has a nice chocolate patina that is quite a bit darker in hand but I think I got good details from the photo. Trajan. AD 98-117. Æ As (28mm., 10,73g). Rome mint. Struck AD 101-102. IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM P M, Laureate head right /TR POT COS IIII P P, Victory advancing left, holding shield inscribed SP/QR and palm. RIC II 434 I also won my first ancient gold along with this coin which I'll post when I figure out the best way to photograph it. Please feel free to post your Trajan coins or your favourite as.
The reverse is fairly common for that time period, but I don't often see one in as nice a condition as yours. Love the obverse portrait. Congratulations on your new acquisition.
The photo is sharp and clear. It takes longer to apologize for it being too light than to make it darker. I don't have it in hand to know when to stop but part of making photo is to realize that postprocessing is not a sin when used to correct camera errors.
Worn but I like it. http://www.tantaluscoins.com/coins/107013.php Sorry I can't post pictures on my phone.
Nice coin @Ajax . Nice detail! I captured this one as it spells out SPQR... not too many Roman coins have that. RI AE As Trajan CE 98-117 26mm 11.0g Rome Laureate Draped - SENATVS POPVLVS QVE ROMANVS Victory R wreath palm S-C RIC 675
Great coins everyone, thanks for sharing. Doug you got it pretty spot on. I think I'll use this one from now on. Thanks man!
Nice one, Ajax. I always think it's a neat bonus when you can see the SPQR on the shield. I don't have a Trajan with this reverse, but here's a Domitian.
