Although I am normally a anti slab person, when it comes to trade dollars and ebay, slabbed coins are almost a must.  The number of raw counterfeit trade dollars at shows where you can examine the coins in person is higher than for probably any other series, but on ebay the fakes outnumber the real coins probably by more than a 20 to 1 ratio.  And that is if you exclude the sellers from China.  If you include them it is probably closer to 50 to 1.  In other words, if there are 500 raw trade dollars listed on eBay, 10 of them will be real.  It just isn't worth the trouble to buy them raw.  Don't buy them from the fly-by-night grading services either.  They may not have the experience to spot the fakes, or even worse there have been a few fly-by-night services formed specifically to SELL fake coins, and I would expect to see more in the future.[/QUOTE]
