Thanks for the correction about charges. However, this is still beyond my understanding of why the TPG's would or even want to give a cheap and battered up coin a rating at all. Dave
The why is pretty simple, because somebody is paying them to do so. The TPGs don't care what coin it is that you send them, they get paid to authenticate it, grade it, and slab it. It doesn't matter if the coin is only worth face value or worth $300 - they still get paid the same amount of money for both.
Well Doug, That answer is about as logical as one can expect. My thoughts are that grading a bad or worn coin such as this, is detrimental to their reputation. Dave
There are low ball registry sets from what I have been told. Personally I still think NGC and PCGS get it more right than wrong - not saying I agree with everything they grade, but I have seen worse. Personally I think it is up to the buyer to pick the right coin - no matter the holder.
