What yall should REALLY notice is that I made a TRAY... And my coins obv-rev are paired as a single pic... Not sure if these are the top twelve I like...just too many cool placemarkers in interesting junctures in history!
Ides - sweet Mother of Mercury you've got some amazing coins...and GOLD!! My favorite being the Octavian/Caesar aureus, but I have an addiction to all things pre-Augustus. Only 47 coins, huh? I bet there's not a dog in the bunch. I like your style.
Just took a good look at your set. Gosh, Bing, your Seutonius Twelve is GREAT! Just the right wear that you know they have been transacted and used by Ancients. Mine is a mish-mash of denominations, provincials, and tough coins. Well done!
Love the horses... Used to have several growing up, as well as when I expated in the UK. Do you own horses now?
I know its not my turn but to make the point of options and scale I post the above lead image from my website. Only four of the coins are in my declared 12 but I still like all these coins. I made it as part of my HTML education since the version on my site is mapped so clicking on a coin takes you to the page where it is discussed. These coins are to scale but it is not a tray with blank space around the small coins. Getting it to read clicks on the dolphin was fun. The question is whether a jigsaw jumble has the appeal of an orderly tray. The answer will be different for each who chooses to address it. I realize that many here have no use for coin photography or website crafting but I really have enjoyed seeing the work so many here put into answering the call of the tray challenge. Thank you. Who remembers a while back when we played a game (I did terribly) trying to guess which of our number owned a certain coin. We were fewer then and more of us had coins that represented our individuality. The time that passed has seen our tastes rub off on each other with copycats like me buying something because I liked the one Bing posted, for example. I'm not suggesting we do that again from the dozens posted here. I did poorly enough before that I should not do that.
Thanks. That Julius Caesar aureus in particular appealed to me because of the contemplative sadness of his portrait -- described in the auction catalog as "The most artistic portrait of Julius Caesar on an aureus." I was very fortunate to acquire it in that auction.
ok, i gave this a shot. here are twelve coins i really like, and if they wouldn't make my top twelve, they would all get "honorable mention" anyway. of course, my top 12 would probably have 12 honorable mentions. one coin i haven't posted here yet, but i think its already one of my favorites. not scaled to size, i got tired after getting them all on the same pic.
You're collecting breadth is staggering, Doug. I think that Plautius Plancus looks a bit like Gene Simmons.
Ahahaha => I was in the KISS Army 40 years ago ... man, at the time I thought I was soooo cool (lookin' back => not very cool) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_Army .... man, those were good times
It has been a while since I have owned a horse. Most of my family including my wife have owned horses and loved to ride. I still love to ride but no longer have my own. I noticed my set has 24 dolphins, 20 horses and 1 eagle.
