That's a truly excellent selection of medieval coins!

I think this is the best portrait of Henry I I ever saw, and the Henry VII groat is fantastic. And though I'm fascinated by the Viking St. Edmund penny, my number one favorite would be the Beornwulf. What a rarity!

I don't collect English coins, but I've always had an interest in English history.

Enjoyed looking at your coins and reading the history behind them. Really interesting. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the comments all!

For those who think James III looks too goofy on the coins, take a look at his portrait.

Severus Alexander find me at NumisForums

He really shouldn't have hired an Englishman to engrave his dies and paint his portrait...

I think Æthelwulf and Billy the Conk are my favorites here, but I like it all.

Nap, I know virtually nothing about medieval coinage but enjoy looking at them, especially the coins with bizarre artwork like your first two coins :D. I'm glad you posted the painting of James III, the portrait on the Scottish groat is very true to the painting :jawdrop:! The poor guy looks like a real twit .

This is a great thread with great write ups for each and every coin. I’m glad I took the time to come back to this thread when I had the time to read it.

My favorites are the viking penny of St. Eadmund and the William the Conqueror. Thanks for sharing.
