Good suggestions Conder. I think a change like the every 5 year thing was the type of thing collectors really wanted, back when ( as GDJSMP pointed out) collectors were complaining in favor of change. As opposed to what going on now, where you have to have 15,000-20,000 dollars to buy everything the mint produces.
There were all kinds of ideas proposed about changes - some wanted a return to the old designs, some wanted new designs, some wanted a mixture of both - but the one thing that everyibody wanted was change ! We even tried to get them to change the law - to make changes mandatory every 25 years. That idea did not fly. But change we asked for and change we got. Not necessarily the changes we wanted but boy we sure got 'em. Personally, I look on that as success. And when you're dealing with the govt. - that's a lot.
Change is fine, but 10 designs (35 if you count proof, silver proof and mint satin) spread over just the quarter and dollar is a bit much.
HA! Now you know how us Canadians feel Since 1992 we have had around 45 different circulation quarters and just on the 23rd it was announced were going to have another 15 (for the Olympics in 2010). Add on to that all the specials for the other denominations and you get a hell of a lot of mostly ugly and average coinage.
As the man said - "You can please some of the people all the time You can please all of the people some of the time, But you CERTAINLY can #### them ALL OFF AT ONCE!!!"
At that time, the collectors didn't knew that the way it works with US mint is "ask for a glass of water and they will through you in the ocean". Now after choking so much, my collecting interest died for post 2005 US mint releases. Regards Ballabh Garg
Another man said..... He was probably a corporate CEO " You can screw some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, those are damn good odds "
