Thought about popping them a Best Offer mentioning today's slide in the price of silver, but decided against it. 1827/3 CAPPED BUST 25C PCGS PR 66 I realize "book value" doesn't mean much in this kind of rarefied market, but the asking price is nearly three times Numismedia's list price. I wonder where Numismedia pulled their price from (or what they pulled it out of)?
But PCGS says their price is $210,000. With an estimated 10 pieces in existence, I doubt their pricing is updated even yearly.
They're at all the big coin shows. Anything under $50k is barely worth their time. But, more power to em. You only have to sell one a month to pay the bills.
I just looked on PCGS and they list the coin at PR65 at $475,000 even though there was one PR64 that sold at $98,000 at HA, the other $400,000. Does Ebay really have a market at that level and who would risk shipping it? LOL, I sold a Mercury dime at $3.75 and I get an email asking for tracking. Did they expect me to spend $3 to ship it?
Try looking at the restrikes instead of the originals. It lists for $210,000 in MS66 just like I stated. BTW, Heritage sold a PR64 original for $411,000. But they have 0 sales for a PCGS PR66 restrike.
Oh Okay, here is the re-strike sales for pf-66, considerably less: 07/09 HA $69,000 04/09 HA $63,250 01/09 HA $86,250 07/07 HA $126,500
A lot. I can't imagine listing coins at this level on Ebay. You couldn't use USPS insurance. I don't understand people taking that risk. It is like shipping an expensive painting USPS.
USPS website says: Get maximum security for your valuable items. Registered Mail items can be insured for up to $50,000 at your Post Office™. Prices begin at $12.20 I think if I paid $200,000 for a coin, I would either collect it personally, or have a close friend or family member do so.
How about insurance for this coin? I see the max for ship and insure for overnight Fedex is $75,000. Same seller, talking about go big or go home even know the price is $450,000 over the PCGS guide price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1802-DRAPED...308?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ec45e99c
Do you think he will go down to $75,000 from $1,300,000? That is the max insurance you can get from a third party insurance carrier I was looking at. You could offer him the guide price of $850,000 for it.
