Starting a bit of a new series - I know it's not a new idea, but since I deal pretty much exclusively with toned coins, I thought it could be nice to share the eye candy with you guys! Feel free to comment anything and add your own coins, we're all here to share the eye candy! This first one to start with is a coin that I let go way too fast, and still to this day regret not keeping. A PCGS MS62 1880 Morgan with incredible blue and green toning, I named it "Poseidon".
I loved blue-green toners when I collected rainbow toned Morgan Dollars, but I preferred my coins to be at least MS64. The chatter of the lower grades just seemed to distract away from the beautiful toning. Here is my version of "Poseidon" from the Great Falls Collection.
Is the thread limited to dollars? I'm not a big toned coin guy but I do much enjoy the rainbow hues that some of these early nickels display.
Lovely! I myself do like to indulge in the idea of getting toned nickels, especially Buffalo or war silver, but the dollars just seem to be more readily available at lower prices.
That proof half is really cool, also has interesting parallel lines on both sides, could that be similar to the wood grain toning on copper cents, uneven mixing of the alloy?
Justin Lee is one of the best photographers and cherry pickers I know...and I know quite a few...And Those specimens were purchased from him.
