Does anyone collect Toned Jefferson Nickels? I have 2 of them, a 1950, and a 1954 that were among my new collection that caught my eye. The toning is slight on obverse and reverse..looks almost like pastel colors.. Is this common for Nickels? any info would be helpful..
Congrats on the Jefferson additions. Nickels can tone in many beautiful hues. Just hang loose and I am sure you will hear from Lehigh or Gbroke shortly. Jeffersons are my favorite. I am sorry to say I am not so good at photography.
I don't collect them, but I did pull a AU 1939d Jefferson from a roll last week with a nice yellow toning to it.
You have good taste cpb. I collect toned Jefferson nickels. I am not opposed to clean Jeffersons, but I consider them place holders until a toned example can replace it. Toning is fairly common, attractive toning fairly common, but not as common as the silver coins, like Roosevelt's and Washington's. Looking forward to seeing your nickels! Here are a 130 of my favorite ones if you want to see them. http://thecoinnection.com/Public/albumdisplay/album/510/bcolor/0/type/1 -greg
My two coins are close to the 1939P coin in that display, the 50 looks closer to it than the 54.. Those are some nice examples...
My entire collection is basically comprised of toned Jefferson Nickels. Here is a photo of the collection with a link to my registry set below it.
I've been working on a set of Jeffersons & Proofs for about 3 years now. Dansco album. Only have a few to go. Really having a tough time finding a 71, 74, 79D and 84. Was at a show in Clackamas up by Portland today. No luck there. Oh well, the thrill of the hunt. .
This is a great article on coin imaging: http://coinimaging.com/photography.html Already posted this in another thread, but this handsome fella came yesterday. Also received some more from a fellow member as a gift. Here is one:
