Toned 5 Lirot 1966

    Just won this one in an auction. Is is in the mail. I sure hope the coin has that “bronzed” look that the TruView shows, and it isn’t a beauty contest photo. MS 64. Since I am newer to World coins than US ones, I have less of a handle on toning of them.

    I'll be interested to see what you think of that coin in hand.

    The pics make it look a bit "matte" and dull in terms of luster. But, looking at the other examples in PCGS that are photographed, it appears this coin was struck with a very "frosty" type of luster - so the toning may lay on it in a slightly different way from the normal look.

    Keep us posted on what you think of it in hand!

    Yes I will. It was cheap, and if the toning looks anything like that it will be a keeper. If not, I will flip it, as I paid uncertified price for it. Hopefully, as you said if it is toned and lustrous, it will be a good addition. Given that I know little about the storage conditions for those coins, it isn’t like treating them like toned Morgans for me.
