Looking for opinions on this one before my 30 day return period ends. Just wondering if this toning looks AT or NT. Coin is an 1891 CC spitting eagle.
Toning looks secondary after a cleaning. Can’t say whether natural as coins tend to tone quicker after they been cleaned
There is a lack of luster even at this level of preservation. The coin just has that look. Many of the "O" mint and "CC" mint dollars after 1888 lack nice luster even in higher grades. To me it just looks like it has been cleaned. The toning to me is an alert. I could be wrong.
I think it was cleaned a long time ago and retoned. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for this toning, its generic neutral eye appeal. I think the coin would probably grade problem free, but it also isn't something that I'd get terribly excited for.
