So I traded in some of my silver coinage (mostly my Franklin halves, Peace dollars, and junk walking liberty halves) and ended up getting these in return. The pictures kind of stink for now but I'll get additional better images sometime soon. 1872 California half dollar (BG-913) with a pcgs estimated survival of just 110(!?) if I'm seeing that correctly. If accurate, even in the slightest, this might be my rarest coin yet. 1886 $1 love token. I really like the artwork on this one NWT 5 oz silver bar, just because I do like the silver bullion, too!
I was able to grab some scope pictures of the two gold piece but they're still in the SD card and the lights were too bright. I'm going to have to get better ones this weekend.
These pictures are just on my phone. When I take pictures from my scope and crop them, I think ... actually, I don't remember which program right now lol! I'll be sure to take note of it when I pull them though, and get back to you with the details
Just wondering how much bulk in your collection you traded those for these? I'm not familiar at all for your new acquisitions?
You did very nice and got 3 great pieces. Very well done and I’m sure you didn’t have to trade in too much junk silver.
I was curious about that. I'm considering trading in some of my junk silver to complete a complete Morgan set. Of course, a couple of dates are going to be details, not great grade.
I traded in about $600 worth of silver. $8 face 40% halves @$8 3 Peace culls @$23/each 4 Peace common dates @$24/each 3 Peace better dates @$30/each $14 face 90% halves @$20 I think that was it. And like $13 cash or just around that.
I didn't realize partial silver Kennedys go for $8. 20 years ago should have been coin hunting half dollar rolls. Not much point in that anymore.
It was $8 in 40% halves at $8 face, so $4 each. And yeah, I've been tempted to CRH but I just don't have the patience for it and I'd want to put every single coin under my scope to look for varieties. I don't want to put that time into roll hunting lol!
I'm still having a hard time comprehending this "survival estimate" by PCGS. My knee jerk reaction is "no way" followed by my instinctive doubting nature thinking "no way" and then starting to think... they've got to be off somewhere along the line. I mean how can only 110, or even 500 of these have survived the times? I haven't delved into how many of these were actually made, but I would typically assume there are more out there than they think. I dunno, I tend to be wrong a lot. And more frequently then I prefer, too. But that survival estimate just seems bonkers to be as low as it is.
