Today is Election day and I'm wondering how it will affect coin collecting

On currency, yes, on coinage no.

As Doug points out the "have to be dead two years" on the President dollars, and the "no living person" clause on the Stte quarter and ATB quarters legislation are there because otherwise they could have used living persons on them. They specifically put in those clauses to make sure living person were not depicted because the general laws DO NOT forbid the depiction of living persons. f Nancy Reagan had lived a few more months, she would have become the sixth living person to be shown on a coin.

Funny, I hear the same thing about North Carolina. It's almost as though someone wants us to think we're important.

Well one thing the market is in the dumper. Looks like the world isn't buying American politics . And this is just hitting the Asian markets...... wait to it hits the London exchange .

It's early to call the markets. US futures unsettled by the tightness of the race. But they could turn on a dime.

There was IMHO no reason, at least by rational folks, to run up the US markets like they were the past two days. You would think investors would have learned something by missing the Brexit outcome so badly. Apparently not.

First time in my life, I got to say, I ever complained about the Dow going up 450.

Seems that some of you did not read the initial post. Or maybe you are not familiar with our rules regarding politics ...

I would like the chance to purchase a Melania Trump First Wife coin. She would sell out in seconds.

It's not the politics its the unexpected result that the polls completely missed. Markets like predictability no matter what is. Same thing happened with Brexit and a week or two later they were fine again, it will likely be the same here.

The British Pound might want to have a word with you on that. :)

They'll be fine, though; we've just done something which ought to weaken the Dollar enough to bring the Pound right back. :)

Mr. Market is hovering around even though there are wide variances in a lot of sectors. Turns out the futures trade last night was very thin. Life moves on.

I don't really see any effect on numismatics in the long term. The upper end of the market will thrive, because those who buy there will be thriving, going forward. There will be ample buying opportunity down lower as a result of those who *will* suffer over the next few years getting out of "discretionary income" activities.

Getting a tad preachy and political, aren't we?

    Deal with it.

The pound is a beast all on it's own more then just markets influence that. Though if you believe the expanded trade theoretic the pound could see some added strength from the results.

But as we saw the markets didn't crash today and actually gained a little overall. Two areas might get hit hard though
